Summer heat: Tips for caring for children and babies in the heat

The summer heat is here and it's time to take extra care of our little angels during the hot days. Keeping our babies and toddlers cool and protected is of the utmost importance. Here are some helpful tips to take care of their skin and provide them with safe and fun activities for the whole family to enjoy.

  1. Keep children cool: Make sure children are dressed in loose fitting and airy clothes that allow good air circulation. Choose clothes in natural and light materials like cotton to help absorb sweat and keep them cool.

  2. Sun protection: Always use sunscreen with a high SPF to protect children's sensitive skin from harmful UV rays. Apply sunscreen regularly, especially on exposed areas such as the face, neck, arms and legs. Remember to use a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to provide extra protection.

  3. Hydration: Make sure children drink enough fluids throughout the day to keep them hydrated. Give them water regularly and avoid drinks with a lot of sugar. Offer fruits and vegetables with high water content like watermelon and cucumber to help keep them cool and hydrated.

  4. Shade and cool places: Keep children in the shade as much as possible during the hottest hours of the day. Plan outdoor activities in the early morning or late afternoon when the temperature is cooler. Create a cool and comfortable place indoors using fans or air conditioning to avoid overheating.

  5. Pool and water safety: If you plan to swim in the pool or at the beach, make sure children are always supervised by an adult. Use life jackets for the little ones and make sure the older children understand the importance of being careful around water. Avoid staying in direct sunlight for long periods and use a sun-protective umbrella or tent to create a shady spot by the water.

  6. Indoor Activities: On the hottest days, it may be best to stay indoors during the hottest hours. Create fun and creative activities for the whole family such as reading books, drawing and painting, building huts or having a picnic indoors. This provides an entertaining and safe environment for children to enjoy.

  7. Cooling games: Arrange water games and spray bottles to keep children cool and entertained. A water gun fight or jumping through water jets can be a fun and refreshing activity for the whole family. However, be careful and supervise the play to avoid accidents.

Remember that each child is unique, and it is important to adapt activities and skin care to their age and individual needs. By following these tips and paying attention to children's well-being, we can all enjoy the summer while keeping our little darlings safe and healthy in the heat.
